First Presidency Message

Why Do We Need Prophets? - March

By President Dieter F. Uchtdorf
Second Counselor in the First Presidency
When I was a little child, my parents taught me by example to pray. I began with a picture in my mind of Heavenly Father being far away. As I have matured, my experience with prayer has changed. The picture in my mind has become one of a Heavenly Father who is close by, who is bathed in a bright light, and who knows me perfectly.

That change came as I gained a sure testimony that Joseph Smith's report of his experience in 1820 in Manchester, New York, is true:

"I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me.

Mormon.Org: This site is meant to introduce our Church to the world. Through these pages we hope to answer your questions, give accurate information, and provide ways to learn more. The "Our People" page introduces its readers to Mormons who tell their own stories about how the Gospel of Jesus Christ has blessed their lives. "Our Values" highlights some of the cultural priorities of Mormons, such as strong families, service and good citizenship. And we present the core doctrines that underpin our beliefs in the "Our Faith" section. We hope this site will be a good beginning to your investigation of our faith, furthered by contact with the missionaries and visits to our Church services.

A Brand New Year
Young women can now do their Personal Progress online—link to scriptures, track progress, submit plans and report completion, and keep their journal securely online. When finished, they can print the entire book, including their journal. Their parents and leaders can approve and track their work. For young men, fulfilling their duty to God is a lifelong experience—one that is more about becoming worthy fathers and priesthood holders than being recognized for specific activities they have accomplished. To that end, the new Duty to God program focuses on helping young men strengthen their testimonies and their relationship with God, learn and fulfill their priesthood duties, and live the standards from For the Strength of Youth. A Brand New Year is a presentation for Latter-day Saint youth regarding Church standards and themes.
